Description

"Step into the boots of a U.S. Air Force ace pilot in Capcom's 1943: The Battle of Midway, a vintage arcade shooter game from 1987. This game, a sequel to Capcom's 1942, transports you to the heart of the Pacific theater during World War II. Your mission is to vanquish the Japanese air fleet that attacked the American aircraft carrier. Experience the thrill of piloting a P-38 Lightning through 16 action-packed stages. Engage in intense air-to-sea battles against huge battleships and aircraft carriers, or take to the skies in all-aerial battles against squadrons of strategic bombers. Power-ups like health boosts and new main weapons are up for grabs when you destroy a complete formation of red enemy planes. The game was originally released for NES but has also been ported to Atari ST, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64 and the Amiga. The NES version introduced the ability to permanently upgrade certain aspects of the player's plane, adding a layer of strategy to the game.

Game Controls

The NES controller's cross-shaped joypad and two action buttons were used to control the game. The D-pad moves the Super Ace in any direction. The A button creates a supernatural phenomenon to attack all enemies, and the B button shoots at the enemy. Pressing A and B together lets the Super Ace perform a 360-degree dive. The password is entered using the select button. The game is started with the start button, and can be paused and resumed with the same button.
