Description
Star Force, introduced by Tehkan (now Tecmo) in 1984, is a vertical shoot 'em up arcade game that revolutionized the genre. Revered in Japan, it also hosted caravan tournaments, further solidifying its landmark status. Maneuver the legendary starship, the Final Star, annihilating enemies and destructible structures throughout stages named after Greek alphabet letters. Unlike subsequent vertical scrolling shooters, the Final Star has only two levels of weapon power, and no secondary weapons, making for a pure, unadulterated shooting experience. The game boasts a special 'Infinity' level, symbolizing endless gameplay. Ported to various platforms including Nintendo Famicom, MSX home computer, and Sega SG-1000, Star Force's influence spans generations and consoles. Its iconic status is commemorated in various compilations and releases, even making its way to the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console in 2009.
